LGBT Pride Day April 16-17 2011
I went to the Phoenix pride festival. It was tons of fun and there were many people. I saw people of all ages and skin color. The event was a festival where a bunch of people went to celebrate being Lesbian Bi-sexual Gay or Transgender. They had a beauty contest, parade, many tents that you could shop at, and I even saw some old friends from high school. I knew there was pride day but I never knew how intense it was until I went. The event went on from 12-9 on Sunday and on Saturday it went from 11-9 including the parade. They had some tents that people could shop at and sign petitions. They had a tent set up for wedding things. They even had tents for selling rainbow flags and cool things.
There were tons of different colors every corner I turned. To me that symbolized differences. I would have never gone to this event if it wasn’t for this class. Now that I have, I want to go again. Not because I’m lesbian, but because the people were welcoming and free and happy to show their true colors.
Personally, I enjoyed this community event. At first I was a little uncomfortable but once I saw some old friends there it made me realized that they were just the same as me except they like the same sex. I don’t think teaching about LBGT is appropriate to teach kindergartners, but I know they will have questions about it. Once there was a young boy who went to my high school day care and his mother was lesbian another students asked him you don’t have a daddy and he responded “I have 3 mommys and a daddy but they all love me the same”. That could be a way that I teach this type of diversity in my class but other than that, I honestly feel that isn’t something children should learn in early childhood edu. I learned so much and even signed a petition for marrying the same sex. Personally, I think it isn’t fair that they can’t be happily married in some states.

Service Learning Orenitation: Fall 2010
The service learning was filled with valuable information. I learned that you couldnt self place in the CUSD and that the teaching program at CGCC was very new. Jennifer Spring is the person in charge of the service learning. I look foward to doing my service learning hours. Going to the orenitation made it more exciting for me to know what I was getting myself into.
